48V Track System - Low-Voltage Lighting
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the advantage of a 48V track system compared to 230V?
48V systems use low-voltage technology. This makes the busbars significantly more delicate, flatter, and more minimalist in design compared to classic 3-phase 230V tracks. Additionally, the system is completely touch-safe, allowing luminaires and LED spotlights to be moved or replaced safely even while in operation.
Do I need a transformer for a 48V low-voltage track system?
Yes. As the system runs on 48V direct current (DC) but the house's power grid supplies 230V alternating current, a suitable 48V power supply (transformer) is required. This is either placed externally in the ceiling/wall or directly as a feeder at the beginning of the track. When selecting the power supply, ensure that the total wattage of all connected LED luminaires does not exceed the transformer's output.
Can 48V busbars be cut to size yourself?
Yes, our 48V tracks can be easily cut to the desired length with a standard hacksaw. Since this is low-voltage technology, no elaborate insulation work on the copper conductors is necessary after a clean cut.
What is the maximum length for a 48V track system?
Thanks to modern 48V technology, voltage drop over long distances is significantly lower than with old 12V or 24V systems. You can easily realize track lengths of up to 20 to 30 meters with just a single power supply, as long as the selected power supply unit is adequately sized.
Can 48V low-voltage track systems be dimmed?
Yes, 48V track systems are excellently suited for modern and smart lighting controls. As the system operates with direct current, there are flexible options: For professional installations in commercial settings or new constructions, control via DALI or 0-10V is often used. In private areas or for retrofitting, smart wireless solutions (such as Casambi, Zigbee, or Tuya) are usually employed, where the LED spotlights can be dimmed directly via an app or remote control. When purchasing, make sure that both the 48V power supply and the LED luminaires are declared "dimmable" and are compatible with your desired control system.
