What is the advantage of a 230V track system over low-voltage systems?

The biggest advantage of a 230V high-voltage track system is its simple installation. Unlike 12V or 48V systems, you don't need a transformer. The tracks are connected directly to the existing ceiling outlet. In addition, significantly longer track lengths and a higher number of luminaires can be realized without any voltage drop.

What is the difference between 1-phase and 3-phase tracks?

1-Phase System: All spotlights on the track are switched on or off, or dimmed, simultaneously. 3-Phase System: The track has three separate circuits. With a suitable series switch, you can control three different groups of lights independently – ideal for combined general lighting and accent lighting.

Are 230V track lighting systems dimmable?

Yes, as a rule these systems are excellently dimmable. Since no transformers are connected, the dimming capability primarily depends on the lamps used (e.g., dimmable LED reflectors) and the appropriate wall dimmer. We recommend leading or trailing edge dimmers, depending on the specifications of the LED spotlights.

Can I shorten the rail system myself?

Yes, most 230V aluminum track lights can be easily cut to the desired length with a fine-toothed metal saw. Please note that after sawing, the copper conductors may need to be slightly bent back to ensure perfect contact with the end caps and connectors.

What accessories do I need for a complete installation?

For a complete installation, you will need: track rails in the desired length, a power feed (end or middle feed), straight and corner connectors, end caps, and suitable track spotlights or pendant lamp adapters.

⚠️ Safety Instructions

Please note the following before beginning installation:

Qualified Personnel: Work on the 230V mains power supply may only be carried out by a qualified electrician (in accordance with VDE 0100).
Switch off Power: Before installation, switch off the circuit breaker and secure it against being switched on again (attach a warning sign).
Verify De-energization: Always check for de-energization with a suitable measuring device (e.g., multimeter).
Area of Application: The system is not suitable for outdoor use, unless explicitly marked as IP65+.
Workplace Safety: Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the work area during installation.

📋 Installation Steps

1. Planning & Preparation

Precisely mark the track path on the ceiling with a pencil.
Determine the position of the feeder unit (start, middle, or pendant suspension).
Ensure that a 3-phase supply line (L1, L2, L3, N, PE) or a 1-phase supply line (depending on the feeder type) is available at the mounting location.

2. Mounting the Track

Drill holes according to track length and manufacturer's instructions (recommendation: a bracket every 50–100 cm).
Insert dowels and firmly screw on mounting brackets.
Snap or screw the track into the brackets.
Use a spirit level to ensure exact horizontal alignment.

3. Connecting the Feeder Unit

Insert the feeder unit into the track at the designated point and lock it.
Connect the supply line according to the wiring diagram:L1, L2, L3 → Phase 1, 2, 3 (black / brown / grey)N → Neutral conductor (blue)PE → Protective conductor / Earth (green-yellow)
Tighten all terminals firmly and ensure correct wire colors.

4. Installing End Caps & Connectors

Attach and fix end caps to both open track ends.
For track extensions: Insert connectors and check for a tight, flush fit.

5. Function Test

Switch the circuit breaker back on.
Carefully check the voltage on the track with a multimeter.
Insert a first spotlight and test its function.
Important: Pay attention to heat development, unusual noises, or flickering light – in case of abnormalities, switch off immediately and check the connection.

💡 Inserting Spotlights & Adapters

Insert the spotlight or adapter into the track and rotate it 90° until it audibly clicks into place.
Select the desired phase on the spotlight (L1, L2 or L3) – this can be set directly on the spotlight via a mechanical phase selector, depending on the model.
Align the spotlight in the desired direction.

🔄 Phase Assignment & Light Control

The 3-phase system allows independent control of up to 3 separate light groups via separate switches or dimmers:

🛠️ Maintenance & Care

Only change or adjust spotlights when de-energized (light switch off, if in doubt, circuit breaker off).
Regularly check the track for dust and dirt – clean only with a dry cloth.
Never allow moisture to penetrate the inside of the track.
In case of defects, use only original RIMCLED spare parts.
