1. The Core Properties of Modern LED Technology
Luminous Flux (Lumen) instead of Power Consumption
While wattage used to be the measure of brightness, today, luminous flux in lumens (lm) is the decisive property. It indicates how much light a luminaire actually emits in all directions.

Targeted Use: For comfortable general lighting in the living room or bedroom, approximately 100 to 150 lumens per square meter are calculated. In work areas like the kitchen or home office, where concentration is key, 250 to 300 lumens per square meter are ideal. Powerful high bay lights or floodlights for outdoor areas often range in several thousand lumens to illuminate large areas according to standards.
Color Temperature (Kelvin) for the Right Mood
The light color significantly influences our mood and performance. It is measured in Kelvin (K) and is divided into three main areas:

Warm White (2,700 to 3,000 K): This light has a calming and cozy effect. It is perfect for floor lamps in the reading corner, table lamps on the bedside table, or decorative wall lights in the living room.

Wherever colors need to be judged absolutely undistorted – such as in front of the mirror in the bathroom (supported by high-quality bathroom lights) or in fashion presentations – you should look for a CRI of Ra > 90.
Beam Angle for Light Control
The beam angle determines how wide or focused the light is emitted into the room:

Not every LED luminaire can be installed everywhere. The ambient conditions significantly determine the required mechanical properties:

Moisture and Wetness: In the bathroom and in harsh environments such as garages or basements, the housing is exposed to water vapor and splashing water. Bathroom lights in the direct vicinity of showers and bathtubs require at least protection class IP44. For dusty and wet rooms, robust damp-proof lights (often IP65) are absolutely necessary to prevent short circuits.
